Paris Paralympics 2024 Day 6: India Shines with Multiple Medals in Para-Athletics

 

India had a successful Day 6 at the Paris Paralympics 2024, securing five medals across various events, all coming from para-athletics.


In the men’s high jump T63, Sharad Kumar won silver, and Mariyappan Thangavelu claimed bronze. The javelin throw F46 final saw Ajeet Singh earning a silver medal, while Sundar Singh Gurjar took bronze. 


Shooting champion Avani Lekhara, who previously won bronze in Tokyo, finished 5th in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions SH1 final. Bhagyashree Jadhav also showed great determination, finishing 5th in the women’s shot put F34 final.


In archery, Pooja made it to the quarter-finals in the women’s recurve but was defeated by China’s Wu Chunyan. The day ended on a high note as Deepthi Jeevanji clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 400m T20, adding to India’s growing medal tally.

Shooting:

- 1:00 PM: Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions SH1

   - Avani Lekhara finished 7th in qualifying, later finishing 5th in the final.

   - Mona Agarwal did not qualify, finishing 13th.


Athletics:

- 2:28 PM: Women's Shot Put F34 (Final)

   - Bhagyashree Jadhav finished 5th with a best throw of 7.28m.


Archery:

- 3:20 PM: Women's Recurve

   - Pooja defeated Yagmur Sengul (Turkey) 6-0 to enter quarter-finals.

- 9:21 PM: Women's Individual Recurve Open Quarter-Final

   - Pooja lost 4-6 to Wu Chunyan (China).


Athletics:

- 10:38 PM: Women's 400m T20

   - Deepthi Jeevanji won bronze with a timing of 55.82 seconds.

- 11:50 PM: Men’s High Jump T63

   - Sharad Kumar won silver.

   - Mariyappan Thangavelu won bronze.

   - Shailesh Kumar finished fourth.

- 12:13 AM: Men’s Javelin Throw F46

   - Ajeet Singh won silver.

   - Sundar Singh Gurjar won bronze.

   - Rinku finished fifth.
