Twist in Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: Victim's Parents Allege Police Attempted Bribery

The tragic Kolkata doctor rape-murder case has taken a shocking turn as the victim's parents claim that the police attempted to bribe them in an effort to suppress the case. The parents, joined by protesting junior doctors at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday night, alleged that authorities hurriedly cremated their daughter's body without allowing them to see it.

The victim's father, in a statement to PTI, said,
The police tried to hush up the case from the beginning. We weren’t allowed to see the body and were kept waiting at the station. When they handed the body over, a senior police officer offered us money, which we immediately declined.

The case, involving the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor, has ignited protests across the country. Junior doctors have been demanding justice and the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, accusing the police of mishandling the investigation. In a symbolic protest, a group of junior doctors presented an artificial spine to the commissioner, urging the police to "grow a backbone.

The victim was found in a semi-naked state on August 9 at RG Kar Medical College, and the main accused, Sanjay Roy, was arrested after CCTV footage and evidence connected him to the crime. The case has since been handed over to the CBI following a Calcutta High Court order.

Protests continue to intensify, with healthcare services in West Bengal disrupted as doctors strike in solidarity. Meanwhile, thousands of women marched in the 'Reclaim the Night' campaign, demanding justice for the victim, as Kolkata residents turned off their lights in a powerful candlelit vigil.

The fight for justice in this heartbreaking case continues.
