Meta Apps Fully Restore Service After Major Outage on Wednesday

Meta’s apps, including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, have fully recovered after a major outage earlier today. On Wednesday afternoon, starting around 1PM ET, many users faced difficulties accessing the apps, with issues ranging from failed loading to seeing outdated posts.

During the peak of the disruption, Downdetector reported significant spikes in user complaints for Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, with over 66,000 reports for Instagram alone and more than 83,000 for Facebook.

Meta acknowledged the problem on X (formerly Twitter) shortly before 2PM ET and reassured users that they were working to resolve the issue. By 5:26PM ET, the company confirmed that services were 99% restored, with only a few final checks remaining. At 6:02PM ET, Instagram announced it was back online, thanking users for their patience.

This outage follows a similar disruption in March, which also affected Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, and comes after another widespread issue in October 2022.
