The world of television reunions just got even more exciting! A revival of the iconic sitcom Malcolm in the Middle is officially in the works at Disney+, Variety has confirmed. The new series will bring back the beloved original stars Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek, alongside the return of creator Linwood Boomer, who is also leading the revival as writer and executive producer.
Disney Branded Television has ordered four new episodes of the fan-favorite show, though a premiere date has yet to be announced.
According to the official logline, the new episodes will revolve around Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter being dragged into the family’s familiar chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) invite him to their 40th wedding anniversary party.

Originally airing on Fox from 2000 to 2006, Malcolm in the Middle became a cultural touchstone over its seven-season run, totaling 151 episodes. The series garnered widespread acclaim and earned 33 Emmy nominations, winning seven awards, including two for Cloris Leachman for Best Guest Actress and two for directing and writing in a comedy series. All episodes are currently available for streaming on Hulu and Disney+ for bundle subscribers.
Karey Burke, president of 20th Television, reflected on the series’ lasting impact, saying, “Malcolm in the Middle literally changed the face of the television comedy landscape when it premiered two decades ago, redefining what the genre could be. Alongside Boomer, the creative team includes executive producers Bryan Cranston, Tracy Katsky (KatCo), Gail Berman, and Arnon Milchan (New Regency), with Ken Kwapis set to direct all four episodes. Jimmy Simons and Laura Delahaye are co-executive producers. The limited series is produced by 20th Television and New Regency.
In an exciting trend for early 2000s shows, Malcolm in the Middle joins a growing list of revivals. Recently, it was reported that Scrubs is also getting a reboot at ABC, and Prison Break has been greenlit for a pilot order at Hulu.
